Asus Eee PC overclock Benchmarks

If you have an Asus Eee PC you maybe curious as to what it can do when overclocked (term used loosely) to 900MHz.

Below you will find three bench mark tests completed using 3dMark 03 and eeectl 0.2.3.

eeectl 0.2.3 (http://www.cpp.in/dev/eeectl/) is a small program written which allows Eee PC users to set their CPU speed to three levels; STOCK, MEDIUM and FULL and also provides you the ability to control your fan speed, which is key to making sure you don't fry the innards of the little Eee PC.

For these test we set the fan to automatic and at no point did the Eee PC need to go past 50% - which is good ;o)

The System: Asus Eee PC 4G (701) OS: Windows XP Home Upgrades: 2GB PC2-5300 (333MHz) Everything else is stock

STOCK SPEED (630MHz) - 3dMark 03 Overall Score - 364
Highest Temp - 57c

Overclocked to MEDIUM (765MHz) - 3dMark 03 Overall Score - 457
Highest Temp - 62c

Overclocked to FULL (900MHz) - 3dMark 03 Overall Score - 557
Highest Temp - 67c

Conclusion:

As you can see by the side-by-side image above; overclocking using eeectl 0.2.3 made a significant improvement on the graphic ability of the Asus Eee PC. Although the overclocking did not turn this into a gaming machine.

Admittedly these tests aren't all inclusive and the long term effects of overclocking on the Asus Eee PC along with the increased temperature when overclocking wasn't proven safe. None-the-less we found the eeectl 0.2.3 to be a great utility which gave use instant control and turned out some pretty decent results.

As with all overclocking it is strictly use at your own risk - Your Eee PC, Your Choice.
